In 2023, I had the honour of rebranding Lyndoch Primary School, a place deeply connected to its community with a rich heritage dating back to 1877. The new logo was crafted to represent the school’s core values: care, understanding, growth, and a strong connection to its surroundings.

At the heart of the design is the fig tree, a symbol of the school’s enduring presence. The trunk, made of hands in a caring and supportive pose, represents the dedicated staff, teachers, and the wider school community. The hands hold up the foliage, made up of smaller hands and leaves, symbolising the children and their healthy growth. The two colours in the foliage reflect the diverse mix of people at the school, but also show that all are welcome.

The heart at the centre of the hands conveys the compassion and understanding that are key to the school’s identity. The tree is nestled in a valley, a nod to the school’s location in the heart of the Lyndoch valley, surrounded by vineyards and fields. To further emphasise the school’s heritage, the logo includes ‘EST 1877,’ grounding the design in its historical roots.

For the typography, I chose an old typeface for “Lyndoch Primary School” that exudes professionalism and trust, paired with a secondary font that’s open and easy to read, reflecting the school’s welcoming nature.

This rebrand tells the story of a school that cherishes its past, supports its present, and looks towards a bright future of growth and community.
